Your Hypnobirthing Midwife

Our Hypnobirthing Services Are Currently Suspended

In the current climate, where home birth provisions are being withdrawn and NHS maternity face-to-face services are being reduced and brought into the central hub of clinics and the hospital, or are being offered remotely, our midwife services are now in huge demand.  As such, we need to move our focus to midwifery care and are therefore not offering any hypnobirthing services until further notice.
In the meantime, we can recommend the following respected hypnobirthing courses.

What is Hypnobirthing and Why KGHypnobirthing?

KGH is a holistic and fully comprehensive course which is so much more than learning relaxation techniques. Don’t worry, it will not have you clucking like a chicken.

It is about:

  • Sharing information and evidence to enable you to be equipped and informed for pregnancy, labour and birth.
  • Providing you with the tools to use to empower and create a positive birthing experience together.
  • Giving you, through practice, the ability to learn to let go of fear and negativity.
  • Equipping you with the tools and experience to be able relax and focus on your birth.
  • Learning the power of the mind: “Where the mind goes, the body follows”.

KGH is the original and largest UK hypnobirthing course. It is based on hypnotherapy and hypnosis, which means using words and techniques to create a positive view and a calm and relaxed mindset in which to help women and their partners manage unfamiliar situations.

It is the only course which is accredited by the Royal College of Midwives.

History of Hypnobirthing in Medicine

“In 1955 Psychological Medicine Group of the BMA (British Medical Association) commissioned a subcommittee, led by Professor T Ferguson Rodger, to deliver a comprehensive report on hypnosis. It included many eminent scientists and concluded, from a systematic review of available research that there is a place for hypnotism in the production of anaesthesia or analgesia for surgical and dental operations, AND can be considered an effective method of relieving pain in childbirth WITHOUT altering the normal course of Labour.”

Hypnosis Effectiveness:

  • Psychoanalysis – 600 sessions =38% effective
  • Behaviour Therapy -22 session = 72% effective
  • Hypnotherapy – 6 Sessions = 93% effective

Benefits of Hypnobirthing

Hypnobirthing has different practical, physiological and emotional benefits for everyone.

For the expectant mother, she learns techniques to help unlearn the fear surrounding birth:

  • to practice how to create a relaxed state in which she can feel confident in her body’s ability to effectively birth her baby,
  • to support her in trusting her instincts and create a positive space in which to do this.
  • to boost oxytocin level, which helps oxygen circulate more effectively
  • to increased positive endorphins which act as the body’s natural pain relievers. (Some women who use hypnobirthing techniques have been known to describe labour as pain free)
  • tendency to experience shorter labours and
  • shorter stay in hospital following the birth.

For the birthing partner the benefits are:

  • learning ways to support their partner in preparing for labour and birth,
  • having a tangible job/role in the birth so they can feel connected and important in the birth of their child
  • empower them through the knowledge gained to be able to confidently ask questions
  • Positively communicate with health care professionals on behalf of the labouring woman.
